An accomplished 11-year-old Indian American boy from Sacramento, Calif., Akshaj Mehta, who has written five books and countless articles, essays and poems, was honored recently by the American Red Cross as its “Youth Hero of the Year.”

Mehta was recognized at the Red Cross’ 100 Years of Sacramento County Heroes Presentation May 31.

During the event, the youngster — the youngest recipient of an award at the event — was honored by Assemblyman Ken Cooley with a certificate of recognition, as well as from the American Red Cross.
