The Golden State honors Draper Battalion Chief Matt Burchett as a California hero

DRAPER, Utah -- Draper Fire Battalion Chief Matt Burchett died 800 miles from home, in the mountains of Northern California.

Now, he's remembered as a friend, colleague, mentor, father, and husband on the Wasatch Front, and as a hero in the shadow of California's high Sierras.

"Indivisible," said California State Assemblyman Ken Cooley, when asked what word came to mind as he attended Burchett's funeral in West Valley City, Utah.

Hundreds of people descended on Herald last Saturday, filling the streets, park and nearby property as friends and neighbors gathered to celebrate the annual Herald Day event and celebrate with event honorees Ron and Judy Jacobson. The couple was given mementos of the event by Herald Community Club event organizers, and Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli was on hand to honor the couple as well.

The event began with a festive parade filled with classic cars, antique tractors, floats, horses and a genie in a magic lamp.
