Assemblyman Ken Cooley’s AB 2596 Passes Committee

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (MPG) - Assemblyman Ken Cooley (D-Rancho Cordova) announced that his AB 2596 successfully passed the Assembly Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy Committee.

AB 2596 requires the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development to lead the preparation of the California Economic Strategic Plan, outlining economic goals for the state, identifying impediments to those goals, and evaluating the effectiveness of the state’s current economic development programs.

California’s economy isn’t just L.A. and Silicon Valley. We need a statewide strategy

We all feel California is in the driver’s seat. The Golden State has the keys to the most innovative economy in the world, yet we are constantly managing economic crises in housing, poverty, homelessness, and infrastructure.

Why are we faced with these ongoing, systemic issues when we are the world leader in innovation and fuel the strongest economic engine in the country?

SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) - Tucked away in a book in my Capitol office is a letter addressed to Kenneth William Cooley whose return address is stated simply as The White House.  A 4 cent stamp on the envelope shows a Mercury space capsule floating above a luminous Earth with the words “US Man in Space.” Its cancellation mark shows it was mailed on May 4th 1962 in Washington, D.C. I had written President John F. Kennedy at the age of seven, and received that response shortly after I turned eight.
