Assemblyman to meet constituents

Assemblyman Ken Cooley, D-Rancho Cordova, will hold community "meet and greet" events Saturday in Citrus Heights and Arden Arcade.

Cooley will be at the Starbucks coffee shop at 7801 Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and at the Starbucks at 2651 Marconi Ave. from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Rosemont residents will have a chance to grill some of their elected officials Wednesday night.

The Rosemont Community Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Rosemont High School cafeteria, and the schedule includes question-and-answer sessions with Assembly Member Ken Cooley, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli and Cordova Recreation and Park District Administrator Jim Rodems.

Over and over, the Top 40 hit "Good Time" by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen blared through the parking lot at Rancho Cordova City Hall on Sunday afternoon. A cast of more than 200 residents waited on standby, eager for the director's cue to start lip-syncing.

They'd gathered to film a "lip dub" video of "Good Time," which will premiere July 3 as part of Rancho Cordova's 10th anniversary as a city. Lip dubs are an increasingly popular method of creating homespun music videos, which in some cases have become Internet sensations.

Frogs 'have a lot on the line' in annual Capitol jumping contest

Democracy! One of its greatest aspirations is treating elected representatives and the everyday people who elected them equally -- a leveling that, once a year in Sacramento, includes California lawmakers trying to grasp slimy frogs and then dancing around and stomping to encourage said frogs to hop.

Tuesday was the 39th annual Capitol Frog Jump day, a hallowed occasion that honors Mark Twain's well-known story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County."
