Best of Carmichael Businesses Honored

Twenty-nine businesses were the toast of the town when the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce and Carmichael Times hosted the “Best of Carmichael” awards gala last week. Results were decided by public vote and presentations were made at the Patriot Event facility in Milagro Centre.

Winners received proclamations from Congressman Ami Bera, Senator Jim Nielson, Assemblyman Ken Cooley and Sacramento County Supervisor Susan Peters.

Women's Veterans Event Honors Many Who Served

A very impressive group of women who have served our country came together at the gathering and celebration, hosted by American River Brewing Company.

Prolific 11-year-old Author Named ‘Youth Hero of the Year’ by the American Red Cross

An accomplished 11-year-old Indian American boy from Sacramento, Calif., Akshaj Mehta, who has written five books and countless articles, essays and poems, was honored recently by the American Red Cross as its “Youth Hero of the Year.”

Mehta was recognized at the Red Cross’ 100 Years of Sacramento County Heroes Presentation May 31.

During the event, the youngster — the youngest recipient of an award at the event — was honored by Assemblyman Ken Cooley with a certificate of recognition, as well as from the American Red Cross.
